Civil engineering is a four-year bachelor’s degree course offered in colleges and universities while structural engineering is an advanced specialization after one becomes a civil engineer. Civil engineering is a professional engineering discipline that deals with the design, construction, and maintenance of the physical and naturally built environment, including works like roads, bridges, canals, dams, and buildings. All structural engineers are civil engineers, but not all civil engineers are structural engineers. Sometimes the nomenclatures are used interchangeable which adds to the confusion. To answer that question, it’s best to understand the difference between the two engineering disciplines.
